Hi all,

I was considering an Edirol R-09 but have now found the H4 to be a consideration as well. The price is right, for sure.

My needs are simple: I want to have a digital recorder for voice only (interviews and recording the kids playing for prosperity) but I would like the function of a time and date stamp - info that would be imported along with the file into iTunes, for example.

I know the Edirol has a time-date stamp function, but unsure as to whether the H4 does.

I have been searching but cannot find anywhere that says if the files are stamped in some way so we know when they were recorded.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks and regards,

David See

Thanks! Look forward to providing some worthwhile input!

I know there is a "file created" date and time in each file you create on a computer, so I gather this will happen on the zoom-created files. But those details can sometimes change if you manipulate the files in any way.

I just find the time-date stamp such a useful feature, especially when archiving material. Guess you could call me a "Time and Date" junkie. My opinion is that if, when listening to recordings in the future, you do not know when they were made, they are not as useful.

I guess the only other option is to say the time and date when starting a recording.

I have always been into recording family events and now see recording the kids as they develop an incredible thing to be able to do!

I like audio records as listening back allows your imagination to run wild.

Video is good (I do that as well) but it is all there for you to see. No imagination needed.

There is no stamp/date function on the H4. Perhaps this will be added with a future firmware update. But as of now, all recorded files have the same date 16 Sep 2005 in their info.

there is no time/datestamp.
i have a mrs-8, and that device also does not have date/time stamp.
the designers have not put a clock into it. that means that the feature
you are requesting will not be available in the future.
one way to make it work were if the user was asked fot time/date every
time it is powered on. bu that would be a nuisance... :-(

How about naming the file with the date? It would be an additional few steps, but should work, I think. It would be much easier if the files were downloaded to computer.

Good idea.

I have also found the Edirol R-09 is becoming increasingly hard to get.

Perhaps for good reason?

Well, I managed to get my hands dirty with an R-09 today for a few hours.

The Time and Date Stamp feature is now not such a big issue on choosing between the R-09 and the H4 as I have learned the stamp does not do anything unless checking the file details inside the R-09 unit itself. In other words, when moving the files to the computer the Edirol is hooked up to, for example into iTunes, the time and date does not show there anyway. So it is really no more use over the H4.

HOWEVER:

The unit is small, has excellent sound quality and is easy to use. It feels more solid than the H4 but the H4's features are many compared to the R-09.

A hard decision indeed.
