Hi,

First time posting on here. I got an R8 a few weeks ago and have been playing around with it. It's a great device, but I've noticed that the FD Combo never gets clean. It's based on a 65 Blackface Fender Twin which is perfectly clean, but even if I turn the gain on the model 0, it is never trully clean, there is always a noticable bit of crunch in there.

Does anyone else experience this or is it a fault on my R8 (unlikely).

Hi deano_l, welcome to the forum.

Well to tell you the truth, i do think the amp sims within the R8 are something of a little bonus.
You can't compare it to dedicated modellers which cost more than the R8 alone.
The R8 is a multitrack machine not an amp modeller so we should not expect that much.
However the effects are derived from the G2nu and the G2nu is pretty good.
And although Zoom is not exactly famous for it's clean models, i checked it out.
Started with a clean empty patch (no eq, compression or whatever) and dialed in the FDcombo preamp.
Sounded very nice to me and playing around with the input gain and the volume knob on my guitar i was able to get a nice clean sound without any crunchy edge.
So i guess it depends on a lot of things like your guitar etc. but it is possible to get a true clean FDcombo sound.
