I recently bought an H2 Zoom off Ebay, and it seems to function alright except that it will not recognize ANY memory card I put in it. It seems to work okay other than thinking it has no memory card when there is in fact one inserted.

I've read online that this model is finicky about what memory cards it will accept, so as I researched I tried a lot of different ones. Here are the SD cards I tried and that the unit didn't recognize:

SanDisk 2 GB (SD. The rest are SDHC cards)
Kodak 4 GB
Kingston 16 GB
SanDisk 16 GB
SanDisk Ultra 8 GB

The unit is still running the very oldest version of the firmware, which I can't update without a memory card inserted. Is this unit defective?

Hi BoringPostcards,

does the display tell you "No Card" and did you try the internal format-Option?

As far as I know the H2 formats the SD-cards in a special way and can´t read other formats.

Cheers...

Hi Erny...

Yes, the display tells me "No card." I didn't know about an 'Internal format option'- will Google that and see if maybe that will solve the problem. Thanks!

Go to:

main menu -> SD-card -> card format

If this is not possible because the H2 "thinks" there is no card inserted I assume, that there is really a hardware-problem and the recorder needs a service?

Good luck anyway...

OK, I HAVE tried that and yes, it won't format any of the cards because it thinks no card is inserted.

Give it a last chance:

- Connect the H2 via USB to a computer and try to get into contact with the sd-card

- Take the batteries out for a longer time (at least 1/2 an hour) and try it again

Don´t know to suggest other things :(

Given all you already tried, I can only suggest trying to clean the internal contacs for the card. Maybe this can be done with a toothpick and a thin cloth with some alcohol.
