A song I wrote a year ago, recorded and didn't like it. I've done it again as an acoustic version. I'm kinda easing myself back into the saddle with this. Might even write something new...

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=584255&songID=11559289

I've reviewed a few of late, I'll review some more.

Nice mate. Early on, I'm getting a bit of phase over the silences; easily edited out. I love the lyrics, and I love the way that you gently reclaim the phrase 'Northern Soul.'
The mix is very nicely done, and the arrangement is beautiful - insistent and engaging. Altogether a very sensitive and pleasing piece.
Lovely work. And I think your decision to record it as an acoustic number is spot on.
Best,
Ferret

Nice tune, Johnny!
Love the chord changes. Major 7ths always sound special on acoustic guitar.
Great lyrics too, my man!! One of your best!

This is sweet. I dig the vox; great voice & attitude. Good emotion! :D

Nice little progression; mellow, but it's got an urgent undercurrent. I'd like to hear some percussion, maybe in the chorus/bridge area or something like that. Claves or a woodblock maybe, just to set it off a bit. Something organic, like the tune itself. :)

Nice.
Thanks!
Matty

I'm gonna come back to it cause you might do a remix or I might like it better whene I'm more in the music mood and then love it.

The first take 12 months ago had the whole motown beat going but it fell flat. White boy don't do soul!

I doubt it. But I may. There's way too much background hiss and an odd phasing sound. Ah well.

Matty said, "it's got an urgent undercurrent."

Exactly  That's what struck me about half-way through. It's not a typical "urgent undercurrent", but there's a hint of nostalgia and hope in this one. Very very nice.

Love the chord progession :^: ....but not so much the swooshing effect on the acoustics; that's just me. If this were recorded with no effects, I'll bet you'd like it better, but who knows? It's not really a bad sound; I just like acoustics to sound like acoustics.

This is a great tune---wonderful lyrics!

I can't get rid of the accent, :D I'll just have to keep it on board.

Cheers. It is nostalgic for a soul/dance music scene I was into in my late teens. Best thing is they held "Ritz Sunday All Dayer" 2 weeks ago - I went along and had a ball.
That swooshing effect... I'm gonna have a look at that. It's not meant to be there. Thanks for review.

When I say "easily edited out", I mean "Easily edited out by someone competent." Ie myself excluded. But have you tried just deleting or reducing the volume in the relevant regions of the open tracks that are producing the phase?
Cheers,
Ferret

Nice little tune. I'm sensing the acoustic was recorded with a mic in a pretty hard room and could have better tone. Some beautiful voc harmonies you've done here...I need that!! Found myself singing along towards the end...some nicey-nice-feely-feel-good here! Mr. Headphone Bliss for you, sir :bliss:
