Sounds a bit fuller and such, and like reverb has been added to the master track. I dunno, if I were paying someone to master, I wouldn't be happy with that. Not that it sounds bad, but not quite a pro master. Like you said, presets.

Maybe in the future, you should just put remixes in the original post. Why? I dunno, that's what everyone else does. Protocol?

Check on the 'not quite'. Uhg, but yer right. Might be too wet. Curses! :x

Check on protocol. I'm not good at protocol. If the mods would like to fix this transgression, please do so. :) I'll conform in the future. :D

Thanks!

Hi Mat, it's good to have some new blood on-board....Kudos to you for taking the time to listen to other peoples music as well as posting your own :^:

I really like this but the vocals sound too far in the background IMHO.....the guitars really rock, they sound great!

The drums are ok but when you can you should invest in something like EZdrummer (or Superior drummer if you have the extra cash!)

Great song, i listened twice in a row and really enjoyed it :applause:

Man! I have a hard time knowing where the vocal level should be. Thanks for yer ear; I'll give it the once over. :)

Drums are the bane of my existence. I bought an Alesis DM7(tanks :x ) to learn about a year back. Did NOT enjoy playing electric drums... or playing drums period. I'm an OK punky/pop drummer, but I gots no groove. Sold those turkeys! :drum:

Gonna try again though. I have my ZOOM now, decent mics, and my Housemate bought a real drum kit. He's learning(quite quickly!), and I'm realizing those electrics were hard to 'learn' on(for me). I didn't like the sound or feel AT ALL. When I don't like something, my learning ability becomes very poor. I'm a caveman. :) I feel better playing the real drums, they sound better, and I'm convincing myself to be a simple drummer with good groove. I think when I bought the DM7, I expected to be Neil Peart overnight. :P  :nono:

So, long post longer, I'm going to try real drums soon. I'll write & arrange with the ZOOMs drums for now, but I'll look at all options when I move into DAW. My goal though, is that real pound sound. :D

Thanks!

Matty

Such a mean guitar... love this one (still). You know, the vox sound like an ornery Beck crossed with Bumblefoot (I like both a lot so). :egit:
If the drums were more realistic (namely, less Zoomie sounding) I think this could be a college radio anthem/hit and then some.

Curse you Zoomie drums! A pox on yer toms! :x ;) :x

Well... March 6th is my day of entry on this here rock. Maybe I'll look into EZDrummer or something of sorts. Don't know though, cause all I got is a netbook right now. My entry into DAW an such was going to include a new comp later this year. :gosh: Fraking shit up's 'spensive! ;)

I want to use this guitar setup on 'Killing Time' though. Way more balls in this tone. And phaser phuntone swirlies! Squier Strat, DS-1/Dano Mini-Amp 'boost', Dano chorus & phaser, Dano delay, very wee bit of amp reverb. That Dano Mini-Amp is the bomb. Loud as hell though.

Thanks!

Matty

This does sound a little different than the other mix, Tony's right about the drums, EZ or Superior (Superior is way better, but is a lot more expensive too....) would sound better than the Zoom drums. Actually though, the Zoom drums sound pretty good on this to be honest. Maybe some tewaking (eq, compression, reverb) might help 'em......Just a thought.......

On the drum vsti thing, there are a lot of choices out there. I personall like Superior Drummer, because it's easy to use. As far as realistic sounds, Abbey Road Drums are really good. Steven Slate Drums are great too...lots of choices out there man, if you decide to go that route (PC/drum vsti's) just take your time & try to find something that suits what you need....Of course, if you have the space for a real drum kit, that's always a better option IMO, but like everything else, would take some time to learn how to mic 'em up & get 'em to sound good....

I like the guitar sounds on this, but I'd personally pan 'em out wider. Is this one track duplicated/copied/pasted? If so, that's why it sounds kinda "mono", I could never get my guitars to sound wide, unless I recorded 2 different performances myself......

The vocal is a little low to my ears, maybe some compression would help? Automation would probably help more than anything though, but I'm not sure how you'd do that with the Zoom box.....
Cool song, cool vibe!!!

Two mono guitars panned wide on there, but yeah, it's the same take on two different mics. I haven't figgered out getting two takes on there yet. Sonic-wise, that is. Can't get the sound I want. Might try one COMPLETELY clean (gasp!) guitar on it; mix it in the back. Dunno.

Drums! Arrrrrrg! :drum:  :drum:

There's 4 vox tracks there, and I dint mix any loud enough. Go figger. ;)
I most likely will remix this again, but I gotta put it down for a bit. It's in my head, not my ears.

Thanks!

Matty

This is sort of late 70s punk---me like

All of the comments about the drums and vox are pretty much right---it just seems to lack punch. The playing is great; those guitars are in a bad mood    The sound isn't doing justice to your playing or the song, IMHO. One thing; I would love to hear a snarling lead break at 2:38. Just rip into something...like you're drowning at sea  .

Great tune!

Ok, sounds could be frankly better, but the song is good stuff.
No prob for the bad words, I couldn't get anything of the lyrics.
For drums, I always recommend Drumcore. You can download the basic version for free and it doesn't sound bad.

Great rock beat. But how do you actually polish a turd?

Lyrics and vocals don’t live up to the rest of the production. Your selling yourself short here.

But infectious playing and rhythm.

Bravo Nr 2.

I even quad track some stuff (4 seperate tracks, playing the exact same thing, as close as possible), & it does "thicken" the sound, but can get muddy pretty fast if you're not careful.....

I suggest keep one of the guitar tracks you already have, & record another track/take, then pan 'em out wide & see if that helps any.....

All my experiences are with ampsims (for now  ), but should apply to real amps/cabs/mics too...

Still sounds pretty good though!!!!

And remember, I'm not a professional in any way, I just do this stuff as a hobby in my spare time.....just trying to help!!!!

I'm an ok rhythm guitar player. Suck balls at lead. Plus I get 'redlightis' when I record lead.

I can try, but expect turdiness. :)

Thanks!

I'm going to take a look at Drumcore. I'm also going to try and mic up my roomies kit.

All I got comp-wise is a netbook, so...

But thanks, that's top info on the freebie. :)

I might try a super clean take. Maybe even on acoustic. Saw Green Day do that once in some vid; it seemed to make sense. They mixed it way back, but it sounded cool.

I don't know enough about EQisms yet to get what I want outta 2 dirty tracks. I tried, but it was a mud-bath.

You are a pro! :) Many thanks, bra!
