I've been using the H2 for nearly 2 years now, mostly for recording meetings of a group of which I'm a member, and it's a really wonderful instrument. I'm delighted with the results (which I usually edit later on the PC with Audacity, the freeware). However there seems to me one problem which is never addressed, or at least I've never found anything on it, either in the forum or elsewhere on the website.

It's the problem of noise -- even using a glove and the gadget for attaching it to a boom (and I do have one) it's impossible to hold the machine in the middle of recording someone's contribution without adding noise interference. I rig up some sort of Heath-Robinson compromise with a camera tripod sticking out of one corner of my rucksack, doesn't look elegant, but does, sort of, the job.

I can't bring the large floorstand into the meeting (too obtrusive), and the little desktop stand that comes supplied with the H2 transmits far too much noise (eg if someone bangs the desk! -- or simply puts a heavy book on the desk).

There must be some way around this -- eg a light, easily transportable, small but SOUNDPROOF desktop mic stand -- except that I can't find one.

Any help gratefully appreciated -- so thanks in advance.

all best

The tool that currently has the best reputation for isolating mics from structure-borne noise is the Rycote Lyre system. They make one that is designed for large diaphragm condenser mics

which along with a conventional desk mic stand might do the job for you.

Fran, Further to your advice, this is just to say that I bought that amazing piece of engineering, the Rycote Portable Recorder Suspension and I've now had time to give it a good trial and it's really terrific. So thanks to you for your recommendation -- problem solved!! And thanks to the brilliant Rycote, and Canford Suppliers who also advised me about what would fit the H2 -- I can recommend them too!
Cheers
Brian

I am completely new to Zoom and audio recording, but I have been thinking of how to deploy my Zoom H2n to record a class. It will be about 15 students gathered together and talking to one another, so it will be similar to your meeting situation, except there will be no table. What I think I will do is hang the Zoom from the ceiling. 3M Command makes these really nice cord guides and clips that can be attached to walls and ceilings and easily removed later. You can see some of them here.
