(Maybe Steve taught his cat to play lead)..................so, uh...who's the lead player?

I certainly hope you continue to post more tunes, and I personally promise to savagely and negatively criticize every one of them to make sure you stick around.

You're probably watching the Tim Tebow show. Steelers =

Really like the intro a lot...it's quite a contrast to the song that follows it and yet it fits very well.

Needless to say, I can't fault the recording/production...It all sounds spot on to me

The song itself is really quite catchy, I am wondering if it would have sounded better a bit faster?...but we'll never know!

I'm putting my money on the lead guitarist being Saul Hudson AKA Slash....I'm right arn't I :?:

If it ain't Slash then I'll go for Ron EG?....( I would have said Miner but he's already said it wasn't him)

Good stuff Matey :^:

Nice to see you posting something Steve-o!.....Lets not make it your last

I think the lead guitar player is himself, just to try to win the contest here.

This should not be your last song in here because this is the best place to show your work so it wont get totaly lost. It doesn't matter what we say, what counts is that you do what you want to do.

I knew I had to listen to this intro more then once and I knew I would have time today to re-listen after pool and I'm glad I did. This is pretty much what I heard... today

0:05 to 0:26 Beatles,
0:26 Genesis, love that bass pedal, deep low, octaved double guitar I'm still in Genesis but then comes
0:40 the lead guitar and Pink floyd, but
0:46 my ears tilted a bit till
0:51 and it's not because the background music because I think that is good, love that clash that comes in there, just a little off tuning on the guitar lead. I'm with Alice Cooper now but not for long.
1:02 Ringo Star's grand son,
1:06 Beatles,
1:09 Ringo Star,

1:30 Very Beatles (rubbersoul era) ,
1:41 very Ringo, love that drum banging,
2:19 Jeff Beck or better!
2:41 Bad harmony there on the ending note of the lead guitar, I would have double this note to follow the first pattern and it would have help the transition. Glad that lead guitar stayed in the background after till till the end,
2:43 Great lead in the background till Ringo kicks you out!

I love RIngo!

surford -I knew what ya meant, just making conversation.

Juan - X2. Yer a nut. I'm not following you here, but I have the feeling you mean nothing bad. At least I hope. Have you really digested some of the stuff we've spoke of? Whoa!

James - You're too kind. I don't think anybody really cares around here anymore except you so it's a good thing we became friends. What's that room number again? :P

Pete - Thanks X2. Looks like I'm getting mostly positives on the intro, but I can see your point. I get the feeling I may never get positives from anyone here again.

GWood - Well, I have been around here for a few years, but I appreciate what you are conveying.

Toap - Man, you guys are merciless...Yeah, Tebow time for sure. Half time right now.

TJ - Thanks. I had to use the intro somewhere and it helped add some time to the tune and it's close in tempo. Thanks for all the kind words on the song and such. Good to see you.

1MB - Well now we see a new guy. This must be the first time you've heard one of mine. Thanks for the detailed listen and it's good to hear the Clash mentioned. That's a first. Yeah, the lead was off a bit, but I did have the lead track for some reason and I was able to adjust it a bit to make it a little more listenable and in tune. Thanks.

Well now we see a new guy. This must be the first time you've heard one of mine.
Wrong all away that line my friend!
I'm not that new any more otherless someone can say otherwise and what about the contest? Who leads?
When I asked for your co-operation I sure did go to your linked music page and I heard lots of Beatles influence, didn't find anyone with Genesis Influence so I decided to spend time on you.

I'm just saying, more of you is more for us and you.

I am not sure what comments of mine you are referring to, but I can assure you I meant nothing negative.

Watch Pittsburgh, they are experts at snatching victories in tight games. Great game.

Edit: Great game! On to N.E. (and hopefully you win there and come to Baltimore for AFC Championship.)

Cool intro to my ears. I really like the way the guitar and bass come in over top of it before the drums kick in. I'm sticking this style in my Klaatu area along with maceman music. So I guess that is another way to throw The Beatles sound in there as well :D
Need to give this a go at home so I can turn it up a bit more.

I'll say the same as James. I learn alot from your tips and pointers ... even if I haven't been able to get that dang cowboy song of mine with all the guest vocal working.

Listening again through the monitors this morning.......
Sounds really good Steve, love the bass sound you have on this, you seem to know how to use the low end really well (you make it sound effortless, the low end is an area I always have trouble with......), I'm sure being a bass player helps a lot too.......
The vocals are superb, love the doubled/delay sounds bouncing around in there man, these are new to me (from the previous versions you'd sent me....), so a big :^: !!!!!!

The layers of sound you have here work really, really well together.......

I've known who the guest is for a long time, & just wanna say that he/she did a great job on the lead, lotsa feel/emotion in the playing, & the tone/sound is awesome as well........

A couple of nits though:
The kick needs just a little volume, but just a smidge. This is a personal prefrence, as I like to "feel" the kick drum in my stuff a little more than most folks.........It could use just a little low end eq instead of volume, as I'm sure you carved out some frequencies to make the kick & bass sit together......
The lead guitar/solo might be a little too loud, but only a tad, & again, that's a personal prefrence too......

Cool sounds everywhere in this one man, sounds really good, of course I can hear the Beatle influence, but I can hear that in most, if not all of your songs Steve. It's funny how the artists we really like & listen to so much become evident in our songs (as I'll forever be lost in the 80's metal stuff....... :hilarious: )......

Keep at it man, it's great to hear your music, especially for me, as I know you've spent a lot of time on this, along with putting your heart & soul into it............

You might wanna re-think about not posting songs here anymore dude, seriously :nono: ............you have too much talent not to let us in on it.......

Bastard......

At first I was gonna vote for the miner, until I encountered this:
minerman wrote:
Forgot to mention, it's not me on the lead guitar..........

So that blows THAT theory out of the water. Thinking about it, it doesn't quite have the signature minerman "sound" anyway.

I was even considering perhaps an old performance by Riffmaster, presented here posthumously, but your initial intro thread indicates someone who's still among us.

It does have the highly energetic zeal of one Mr. Szwast and as I don't see his mug amongst the reviewers (up to this point) denying it, I'm gonna guess it's him.

As for the song: It carries the definite and absolute McCartney influence which I've come to know (and admire) of all of SGVs tunes. It's unfortunate that this is his last presentation here.

A post from Ra himself?

Cool song! Frequency balance reminds me of old stuff (Beachboys, Beatles, etc) except 100 Hz and down is much louder.

I liked the intro and I liked the song, but I don't think they go together that well. I don't think a song needs to be over 2 minutes, or any arbitrary time really (although I think SC has a minimum length to show up in the charts). The best part IMHO is ...well I'm not sure what it's called, it sounds like a prechorus... one of the places it starts is 2:06).

Anyway, if you ain't gonna post here, you should at least start posting on some service where I can follow you and get updates and post comments on your songs. Or does soundclick do that already?

DickL - I have been mentioned to be a Chris Bell sound alike and this song Speed of Sound even fooled the Wife. It does really sound like me. At least the first bar or so of vocals and the music does sound like something I would write.

OneMan - I understand your Frenglish and thank you for your kind words. I think someone mentioned Genesis on one of my toons if memory serves, but you probably are a better judge.

Crackford - Doubt the Mile High magic at your own peril... :metal:

FLAM - Klaatuu again I see. I don't mind though, they were thought to be the fab if I remember. I did buy one of their albums way back when. Man, I miss those album days. Tell Mace to get his arse recording won't ya? I have, but it did no good.

Mine-E - Thanks for the nod on the bass, but I don't know if it sounds any different than the majority of my songs. I did learn quite a bit during the time it took to bring this song to the board. Too bad I didn't apply any of it here. I guess I did some, but not as much as say, you. Definitely will do more on the next one. I left the automated delay center. I thought of ping ponging, but never got a roundtuit. It's my lazy way of not adding harmonies. I listened to the cut without the vocals and I think there's some stuff that goes missing so I may play with the mix a bit down the line. I've still got 30 songs and counting to record/finish. You're the second to mention the lead gtr. vol. I guess I just wanted it loud. Maybe I overdid it a bit. It is softer than it used to be though.

Voak - I was beginning to wonder if you fell into a vat of dough or something for a bit there. That is one thing that bugged me for a year or so, I never got to have Riff on one of my tunes. Maybe in another life. No, nobody has guessed correctly yet. I kind of half expected Dr. B to keep guessing, but really, only one guess per person please. I thought you would go into more detail, but thanks for the review all the same

M24P - While there is some EQ in this, there's not as much as say a minerman toon. That's the chorus. There is no pre on this one. I'm probably not smart enough to even figure that out. Thanks for the listen. I gotta stop as IE is jumping around and I don't feel like opening a different browser.

I second Gary's comment, very Bowie-esque, in a good way.
No I can't guess who's on lead guitar duties. It's not me, I'm quite sure, since you claim it is a recent recording, and I tend to remember recent events quite well. I thought it might be Lee for a moment in the intro, but then the solo had too much Slash and too little Steve Vai in it. Minerman would have been a good candidate - but looks like he has an alibi.

Mike Wich (Unstablxxx) could be the guest.

Nice song Steve, very pleasant to listen to.
Great recording too.
As you know I like weird things so the intro doesn't bother me.
53 yrs old? Your voice sounds younger than your age!
The song doesn't remind me of the Beatles, sorry.

About the ego thing, do I understand that you never post anything just for the pleasure to
share it??? I can't believe it.
We all know that musicians are sometimes very pretentious but not at the age of 50.They have nothing left to prove.

It certainly does sound like you. Remarkable :)

Gofish Bob?

Manzana?

Sorry (only 1 guess)

So you have a test bed eh? It came up when I was finding you in the iPad app for SC. That song 'I Know', that was good. What became of that? Pitch it slightly lower and it will be a winner.

I did listen to this one, and the intro still sounds like feedback in an echo chamber. Not a sound that appeals to my cats.

So, changed your mind on retirement yet?

P

PS the two guitarists here who it does remind me of are St Tim of the Ferrets and Chas
