Hi -
recording samples from a roland Sp404 - been going thru the line input and record on tracks 3 and 4 -
this is so I can fool around them on the ps04 and send them back to the roland – if roland had made a copy pattern function then this wouldn’t happen 
the recordings aren't matching the stereo that output that you get from the roland's headphones -
ie- no pans are coming out of the PS04 - it sounds like just 2 mono tracks
am I supposed to b using some type of stereo insert effect when recording to the ps04 or am I supposed to do something like adjusting the track parameters so track 3 pans hard left and track 4 hard right when recording?

Thanks for any assistance provided.

Hi crowley,

Don't use any effects at all - actually, you should make sure no input/mastering effect is active or it will change/distort the sound.

There is a simple way to deal with stereo recordings on the PS-04 - activate the stereo link between to tracks:
1. In play mode, press TRACK PARAMETER.
1b. If you haven't done this previously since you booted the device, it will open INPUT SEL (probably switching to LINE after a couple of seconds) - press the right arrow button to select tracks (TRACK 1 switching to EQ HI OFF).
2. Select track 3 (or 4, doesn't matter).
3. Press the down arrow button until you see S-LINK OF (which means stereo link is off).
4. Use the dial to change it to S-LINK ON.

What you've done is to link track 3 and 4 in a stereo track. Track 3 will be panned fully left (L100) and track 4 fully right (R100). All other track settings - EQ, levels - will be synchronised, taken from the track 3 settings.

If you have recorded stereo to 3 and 4 before, don't worry - just switch on stereo linking and it will play back nicely. None of these settings will impact how it is recorded.

The same setting applies to tracks 1 + 2. (You can't link them any other way, i.e. you can't link e.g. 1 + 3.) Don't get fooled by the labels below the LCD - there's no connection between tracks 3 & 4 and the LINE input - these apply to different modes (TRACK selection and INPUT select, respectively). I.e. you can record stereo through LINE to tracks 1 & 2 in the same way.

Hope that helps.

Hi Yoda,

very grateful for your reply and the great info -

I copied and pasted and its kept in my notebook - its a keeper.

that clears everything up and helped me out a lot.

I got it recorded the way I wanted on stereo link 3-4 -

crossed my fingers and moved those tracks individually to tracks 1-2 - then stereo linked those two - and it was all there (!!)

magic

This board is a wonderful resource - thanks to its posters and I hope it can continue to keep it alive - until my ps04 finally drops dead at least.

Was able to get through what I wanted to do - hopefully will be able to reach a stage when I can provide some acceptable contribution.

long life -

crowley
