I'm here to talk about music not second-rate footie :)

Love this rock'n'roll. Love the little comments. Anyone who lives in London will love the irony of this song.

The final couplet had me howling with laughter!

Great stuff as aways

and I love the assistance, should it be required, in visualising Romford!

Charles - I am so pleased that someone picked up the Dagenham rhyme (there can't be many people that have even tried it). Yes, it helps if you know the areas. Thanks again!

Cheers

Dick

dickl....you've moved to Brighton...sounds like a good idea! I remember going on weekends to Brighton for the beach.....I went to Google maps and had a look at the south Ockendon area...OMG! The place has hardly changed! Same old buildings, same old vibe...the thing that has changed is the street plan where the authorities have cut and shut through-ways to eliminate ppl driving through unless you actually live there....that's all that has changed in over 50yrs?...well that'll save me the air fare reminiscing over my childhood! ha!.........have a good one bro...ssbob

Fabulous. Only changes I'd try would be to reduce the master volume a little, reduce the vocal a little, and turn up the rhythm guitar a bit.

Oh yes Chas, but you are, isn't it in the rules somewhere, subsection 76c? I'm guessing you're another disgruntled Arsenal fan - serves them right for having so many arses in the team, not least arse shavin'

Funny how the lollipop lady became cow on this!

Sounds great in hi-fi too. I really like the lead and the back-to-the-'50s sound. Not unlike the great music they play on the Cafe Racer programme.

Bob - amazing, my wife's aunt lives in Eskaly Avenue just off your old road. Yes, Brighton is a much better place to live :)

Gary - thanks! normally my tracks get the comment that they are little quiet! I do tend to mix the vocals up as I want the lyrics to be heard so I can't tell if they're too loud anymore :)

Pete - I suddenly realised writing this these are supposed to be a set of songs all relating to the same area so I thought I should start making other connections. Thanks for picking up on that :) I'll let Charles fight his own battles. All I'll say is Arsenal was near but not quite.....

Cheers

Dick

That's what I like about these songs. The part about giving the dog away is very touching, I remember my dog disappeared after our home went west in the late '60s. Kids hold onto pets as something they can trust when things turn sour, so to lose them. That's one of the saddest lines in any of the songs you've posted, for me at least.

Actually, jesting aside, I really like Arsene, he does things the right way and sticks to his principles, not always something we say about our cultured neighbours. But what is it with the Arsene, Arsenal, and Arshaving? I hope Chas ain't a Millwall fan ...

That's a relief. I was getting worried for a moment. Tottenham have a great history and a bit of shared history with Glasgow Rangers from way back. I love 'Arry, he's hugely entertaining in his own right.

What team would people from Dagenham support Dick?

P

West Ham as they'd be the nearest "big" team but if they were true Dagenhamites then they'd also follow Dagenham and Redbridge in League Two.

Funny how animals bring out the strangest emotions in people. I saw the Coen Brother's True Grit last night (excellent film btw) and I got upset when they shot a horse but was unmoved by the human deaths.....

Rockabilly! Of course that is what it is called. I could not think of that name for the life of me. "Memphis rock and roll" - . Memphis rock and roll is rockabilly. What I did was similar to describing an apple as a red, often shiny, fruit. "Can you pass me that red, shiny fruit?" "You mean this apple?" "Yes, the apple."

Oneman - country wasn't part of the plan but somehow the guitar took that path. Thanks for the listen and comments.

No wonder some people misunderstand me if I write White and they read Black. I said the guitar was pulling to rock and the bass, drums and vocals to country, can't believe you don't see your song is country rock.

The absolute coolest, Dick! Love it! The guitar solo ROCKS! :guitar:
That IS you on vocals, isn't it? I almost didn't think so until the part at the end when you speak. That kinda gives it away that it's ol' dickl.

One of your best!

Doesn't really push any boundaries musically, but it nails the existing genre spot-on. Good vocals especially.

Just wondering if those clicks are in the original mix and if maybe that delay at 2:33 - 3:00 was a little overdone. Probably should have at least band passed the delayed vocal a bit.

1man - yes, you're right- I was reading too quickly...... it was meant to be a rockabilly style but I didn't have a stand-up slap bass or the proper drum pattern so it ended up as a bit of a mish-mash of styles so there's some country in there :)

John -- thanks, just a bit of a rock'n'roll workout :)

M24p - thanks :) I don't hear any clicks but as my top end hearing is shot that's not unlikely. The echo on the vocal at 2:30 is very deliberate as I was trying for an Elvis pastiche so I exaggerated just about everything. You're right though, it doesn't break any new ground musically but it was fun just having 6 audio tracks instead of the 76 from my last song :)

Man, you got 30 hits already?
I guess most are from you and Pete...
:P
This one gives a bit of a Robert Plant / McCartney vibe on the first few minutes. I liked the lack of accent (except the Tory line and the spoken end) on the last few. It makes these even more likable for me.
I don't have any recording/mixing nits really. Song structure-wise it seems to drag just a bit with the 4 bars between each verse and I think it would work without the sirens at the end and the solo. The solo was good, don't get me wrong.
Regardless, it was a fun romp and unexpected. Who woulda thought a blues prog from El Dick L?
Not me. :noway:

I really like the guitars in this, the lead is particulary good :guitar:

Drums would have been better with some more fills and maybe a beat change later on (imho)
