I wrote this song over a complete song loop by, I believe, Smart Loops. I hope I layered the tracks right for you audio buffs. This marks my first attempt to sing using my full register. You'll hear I didn't quite succeed. All subsequent efforts to re-record entirely or in part turned out even worse. However, this is my favorite song. If you can get past the flatness of my natural voice and the exhausted falsetto near the end you might enjoy it. I hope so.

This sounds good!

Nice job. Like the lyrics and the way you put them to the music. :^:

The loop is catchy... as is the backup (Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh....) for your vocal track.

This has such a cool groove & a really nice vibe Roy! I'd like the vocal higher in the mix though, can't make out some of the words?

This is the first one of yours I've heard with so much Guitar I think, some good little rhythms going on there! Those "oohs" in the background are great, sounds a little like Bono.

Got a bit of clipping around 3.20!

This is so original, love it! :D 8)

I agree the vocals could come up. What I am hearing reminds me a lot of Elvis Costelo which is a good thing. Your harmonies sound good.
Your growing! Not a bad idea to use some loops (especially a whole song loop) to write your lyrics to.

Good job.

James.

I thought this was going to be reggae (with actual Jamaican accents). But the Elvis Costello delivery (as someone else mentioned) is good too. I love that Ron Wood type guitar I hear sprinkled about the place. Nice song.

My main concern is the song.

"The group purchased crude recording equipment and instruments and began to make tapes, refusing to let an almost complete lack of musical proficiency stand in the way." (written about The Residents)

"Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove.”

Hey Roy,

Sounds very good man... catchy from the get-go.......

You have such a unique style....

I like how you wrote the ohh ohh ohh in the lyrics at the end....

This song would be wonderful coming out of a studio- this is a great demo- but a producer who took care of the controls while you did your thing would do wonders.... Could hire a backup singer to accompany you and you would be so happy with it......

catchy riff.

Ok, I perfectly understand that you want to be with me tonight but.....where do you live? :D

Nice and very pleasant song, with good lyrics.

I know you'll find the perfect balance for the voice into the mix. :^:

Wow, you really have a voice. This is an interesting piece. The music isn't as cliché as it might first sound. Your expressive vocals turns it into a real song. And those "oooohs" are perfect. Very nice.

TAIL... the opening is really good... compared to your more 'spare' stuff, having a full background works really well. Like others, I like the 'oooo's'.

Like everyone else here, Roy, use all the tools you have available to you. If loops are what it takes to get your stuff recorded, then go for it. They really offset your vox well.

Excellent job.

Thanks guys for all your comments. They're appreciated. I rarely ever revisit once I record and am afraid to turn up the vocal, you might hear all that I hear wrong and change your mind about the song.

Mace said "This song would be wonderful coming out of a studio-this is a great demo- but a producer who took care of the controls while you did your thing would do wonders. Could hire a backup singer to accompany you and you would be so happy with it" Mace when you want to hire the producer, the studio, musicians, backup, etc. Just let me know I'll be there.

Guy: Stevie Wonder said "Somethings gone grab you, somethings gonna jump out the bushes and grab you.." Don't look now but it just might be me!

Mike: I'll continue to use what I have and what I find and hope that it will work out in the end.

Hey Roy ... you brought the vocal up eh :?:

Very nice indeed. The background vocals are great. I still hear Elvis C in this which I love.

Good job.

James.

Roy, I had posted this on the other thread by mistake. Obviously got carried away listening and clicked on the wrong song to post the review :D

Anyway ...

This is by far the best I've heard from you Roy. Very together. Love all the backing harmonies. The main vocal is a bit disguised/effected, sounds kind of lo-fi compared to the rest of the song, but it works.

From about 3.11 it sounds as though your mix is going into the red zone with some clipping distortion (?).

Really good, I lked this. Encore!!

Pete

Hey Roy, just wanted to chime in again... you know, I am as poor as the next guy, but against all unavailable funds, I mustered up enough to get into the studio for 3 professionaly done songs, and i'll never regret that! (although i will now be broke forever :)) That was because I knew that I needed help in the controls deptartment and that I would have something to remind me of that timeframe with excellent musicians in collab- wonderful feeling....

Look at the tune you just did with Morty... now that is just a perfect example of what i was saying..... you may look back one day and wish you had done it!!! And yes, I wish I had the coin to help others along as well, but i am too busy scrounging every nickle for my 3 kids as is
You have a great voice that deserves more......

cheers,

maceman

Really enjoyed this.Always enjoyed that clicky Fender sound.
Wish the vox were a bit clearer, but its not a big thing.Need the clear up that clipping too.
Those were some real soulful vocals towards the end.
Nice to hear, this one made me feel good.

Roy, I never quite know what I'm going to hear when I click on your stuff. :)

When this began, I wasn't in synch with your lyric vs. percussion rhythms....for maybe about 8 seconds or so.....now I am and it's pulling me along nicely....love the percussion. The mix isn't perfect yet, but MUSICALLY I think this is great, and that's what counts the most. I'm just being pulled along by this in a very smooth way. Nicely done!!!

Late to the party...

Excellent :) This has a great groove and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Jack Johnson.

Also a bit of Van Morrison but still unique.

Nice use of the loops (wish I'd written that guitar figure)

Cheers

Dick
