Went to see these guys Thursday. They were great and I thought they might appeal to some of the gentlemen here who prefer an older style of rock.

They are a young band from New Jersey, apparently Springsteen's favorite young band and he frequently joins them on stage. They sound quite a lot like Springsteen with a modern tint.

I knew I had heard of these guys before. They did a cover of one of Bruce's song. It was posted on his website:

Good stuff.

My main concern is the song.

"The group purchased crude recording equipment and instruments and began to make tapes, refusing to let an almost complete lack of musical proficiency stand in the way." (written about The Residents)

"Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove.”
Bob Dylan "Things Have Changed"

I saw them last summer at the XPN Music Festival in Camden, NJ, a big 3 day thing (I only went to one day). They were so unabashedly derivative of early Springsteen that I couldn't take them seriously. I guess Bruce is flattered.

See you're not listening closely enough. Musically they have a lot more similarities with Brit Pop, but the vocal style and lyrics make them sound like Bruce. It's a common oversight from reviewers etc. also. I also don't see what would be wrong with being derivative anyway, almost everyone is.
