Hi everyone. I'm having this problem with Zoom H2:

I try to record some voices, drums, etc. And when a slightly strong sound is produced by any of these sources (voice, drums, etc), I get a saturation effect on the recorded track.

I've found out that when the Zoom H2 is plugged via USB to the PC, it won't let you adjust the input gain (at least in my experience). Then I tried recording just with batteries(no USB connection), and it went okay.

The thing is that it's rather unpractical to rec and then pass the tracks to the pc, it's easier to record everything directly to the PC via USB.

Does anyone know how I can solve this saturation problem using the device plugged to the PC via USB?

Thanks

Hi.

I've never tried to use the H2 as an audio interface to PC in quite this way so I can't be sure, but are you saying the mic level switch on the side (Hi-Mid-Lo) has no effect when you use the H2 as an interface?

If that is correct, I know of no method for preventing this "saturation" as you call it (I presume you mean distortion), other than placing the H2 much further away from the sound source. Otherwise you will have to "rec and then pass the tracks to the pc"; why is this impractical?

Jeff

Which software are you recording in?

Are there settings in this program which are 'fixing' the record level and can they be disabled/enabled?
