The credit card sized RC4 remote for my H4n has just arrived. As the specification did not say how long the cable was I am pleased that it is 2m (6 1/2 ft) long and comes with an extension that makes the total length 5M (17 feet)

Control is possible of:

Rec and vol level
rec standby
rec and placing markers
Stop
Play
Pause rec/play
next/prev track, ff/frw, or jump to marker
Input channel select for:
Mic/Input1/Input2 with tri colour led lights for active/-6db/clipping, level indication

This is a very worthwhile accessory unless someone trips over the wire

gaffer tape will mitigate most health and safety risks for musicians ;-)

that looks like a very handy piece of additional kit!

I too have the remote...it works well although a longer cable would have been handier for working outside when trying to record wild-life sounds...in a perfect world, the remote could be wireless! Maybe in the future we will have something like that. My digital camera advertised that it came with a remote device, I couldn't wait to see it, thinking it could be 'wireless' to match the hi-techyness of the camera! Alas, no...the remote turned out to be a single button plastic affair with a six-foot cable attached! doh! bobby t

That's incredible! I had no idea you could obtain something like that! Check-out the price! I'll take two!

Seriously though, that solves the problem...now do I really need it? I haven't actually 'needed' the sounds of wildlife so far in my musical career...I guess It's something I think about when I'm imagining the limitations of the device....It's kinda easier to understand what a device can do, when you know what it can't do....bobby t

How long a cable would you need to listen to a kookaburra sitting on your red rock :D

Ha ha!.....Luckily we don't have kookaburras in this particular area.....the thought of them singing in the ol' gum tree sounds rather romantic and exotic to ppl outside our country...but I assure you, the experience is more like listening to a musical jack-hammer on your 5.1!

We do have galahs though, which are a pink and grey parrot, and they are hell noisy...they travel around in massive flocks, and like to sleep close by to eachother in certain trees....in the morning and evenings they all go drag racing eachother, and have a hell of a party! Anyway, amongst this flock is a white parrot....an escaped domesticated bird that thinks it's a galah...this bird has a sound that it must have picked up while being incarcerated in a cage in someone's home, it can reproduce the ringing sound of a digital phone of the 90's era! It flys around making that sound! The standard joke around here is..."can someone answer that bloody bird mate!"

Now coming full circle, the question begs to be asked...how long a cable would I need to record that bird Beemer?(ha ha!..) bobby t

Bobby,

Last year I was walking with my camera round one of our small local animal zoos. I stopped at a cage where there was a Kookaburra sitting on a branch just two feet from me. While I was watching it a stranger came beside me and said "Be careful you don't drop your camera" and walked away. Strange I thought then "blast" the bird decided to get rid of me! What a racket!

I'm going to go back now with my H4n, record the bird and play it back to it through my portable 4W amp!

Ha ha! Now I KNOW you understand me! If someone could laugh at you 'really' loud, then thats what it feels like! No wonder you want to 'get-even' with that portable amp!

Now think of the ramifications of blasting that pint-sized, nitrous injected hysterical laughing machine, with a dose of it's own medicine...
I can see the headlines now..."Wild Scottsman Blasts Osstralian Kookaburra with Huge Decibels"....
In an interview before he was arrested for cruelty to animals, the be-kilted Scott, fully decked out with a complete portable multi-track digital audio workstation and speaker system, was reported to have said..."I'll nought be larfed at, by a fookin kooka-borough me lad!"...

Journalistic fodder for the masses who read the sunday papers!

Hope you don't mind me foolin wid yah a bit...I don't mind the odd scott myself! bobby t
