The H2n has two nice features: PRE REC (continuously record the last two seconds of sound) and AUTO REC (recording starts when the input sound level exceeds a specific threshold). However, it seems that these cannot be combined. When I enable both, it does AUTO REC but it does not include the two seconds preceding the start of the recording, as with PRE REC.

Is that intentional? Or am I overlooking something?

Since noone came up with suggestions, I think it may be worth to send this question to Zoom customer support.

The web site doesn't mention an address. Does anybody know the correct address to reach customer support, apart from trying info@ or support@ ...?

Support is done by the national or regional distributor, I believe. In the US: http://www.samsontech.com/support/

.. but didn't get any response, not even a confirmation of receipt.

Could someone with a working connection to Zoom support please forward my question?

Continuing...

In the H2 documentation it is stated explicitly:

Code:
The pre-record function and auto record function cannot be used together. If you set
one of these functions to ON while the other is already ON, the earlier function will
automatically be turned OFF.

However, in the H2n documentation:

Code:
Automatic recording can only be used with an SD card.
PRE REC cannot be used at the same time as the metronome PRE COUNT function.
Pre-recording can only be used with an SD card.

Therefore I must conclude that PRE REC and AUTO REC should be able to work together. If not, that must be a bug.

After a couple of attempts to contact the local distributor (no replies whatsoever) I give up.

How can I contact Zoom to report a bug in the H2n software?

I managed to contact Zoom and this is the official answer:

----
Unfortunately, we developed the H2n that can't use PRE REC and AUTO REC
simultaneously. We don't know why our engineer decided about this
specifications. Therefore, we will pass your suggestions to our development
group as feed-back to the H2n.
----

So it seems they did want the feature to work but forgot to implement it correctly. I wonder what the next step will be. A documentation update "you can't do this"? Or a firmware update that implements the feature correctly...

If Zoom considers this to be a bug, I´m sure they will fix it with the next software-update ver. 1.2.
