hey i just bought a kb37 off ebay!

any tips on how to get the best out of it?

was gonna use it with windows xp and adobe audition 1.5...

any tips would be great

also anyone know what i can make good sounding drum tracks with?

If you're willing to spend some money there are some great drum synths out there like Addictive or EZDrummer.

Get the (free) MiniMogue and make some weird noises.

I got a KB37. Its good. It's a bonus because all the things you need are now in the same place, bass, lead, accoustic guitars, control of VSTs, mic [inc phatom power] all in the same box. I assume you have Gearbox and/or Pod Farm. I don't know much about Adobe audition, I use Mixcraft and ez mix.

Get registered on the Line 6 site. They are slow at bringing out new drivers [dismal for windows 7] but everything for Windows XP is up and running perfectly. Download Line 6 Monkey and let this test your gear for the latest drivers. Write down your passwords as their site is case sensitive, I've had some minor irritations there.

There is a Line 6 users forum and it is a source of support. Line 6 themselves seem a little understaffed, but when they help they are good.

From my experience you will have to play around a bit to get rid of latency issues the main factor there is speed of your PC and how much RAM it has.

There's a lot the KB37 can do that I've never used. It has assignable buttons but I've never had them working, I just used the PC interface for stop/play/record etc.

To sum up I think it's a great bit of kit as long as you have the right drivers. As good as it is it's not a magic wand. The skills of recording are musicanship, mics, instruments, mixing on your software - but the KB37 cuts down on hassle generated by putting it all in one box.

The VSTs are more related to the DAW or at least in my case it is. The KB37 is not a DAW of itself unless yours came with some software. It's a midi controller [I'm working this out as I type] so it manipulates midi sound but it would be playing through something else.

I use Mixcraft 5, it's very good, easy to use, and inexpensive. That has loads of VSTs that come with it. The KB37 makes use of those very nicely.

Without a DAW I don't see how you'd hear the VSTs - but I'm not that knowledgeable!

i need some way of recording using the keyboard in adobe audition...i have version 3.0.1 now.

im a bit confused on what to do at the moment...


unless someone can recommend a better program to use on a mac?

i would prefer to use a mac and not have to install windows on my macbook, im just used to using audition.

i have reason, anyone have experience with that?

I don't know Adobe as a DAW and I'm wondows, not mac, based. But I'd assume you plug the KB37 into the mac via usb and then adobe would pick it up as the interface.

Maybe switch Gearbox on first?

You may have to tell adobe to use KB37 as the midi device.

AHHH... You will have to set KB37 as your soundcard! THIS IS A MUST DO. In windows there's a control panel where you can switch from the internal soundcard to an external one. Mac must have an equivalent.

KB37 needs to be your input and output sound device and you speakers plugged into it - not the Mac.

Now that advice may be a load of crap - but that's how I do it windows.

Gearbox is the software it comes with. If it s a new KB37 you will have Podfarm instead, I think they're the same thing.

But, basically, it's a piece of software that allows you to plug in a guitar (lead or bass) and it gives you a whole range of adjustable fx. So you plug in your stratt and it adss wah wah, or a punky drive thing, whatever. It also adds fx to mic inputs. Without it you're not getting half of what the KB37 can do.

I can use KB37 as my midi controller with Mixcraft 5. With Gearbox [or Podfarm] I plug my guitar into the KB37 and it adds fx to my guitar.

You're gonna have to look at the Line 6 web site. I think gearbox has passed it's sell by date and they only sell podfarm now but I think they KB37 may be quite limited without one or the other.

I'm sure my gearbox disc came with the KB37. I may be wrong

The person you bought the KB37 off should still have the disc and they won't need it.

Fill in the form and download Line 6 monkey. This little bit of stuff is free. Line 6 monkey will then recommend software upgrades for you as it does a quick check on your PC [mac] and ses what you have.

Do that. With abit of luck you'll get something for nothing!

i have podfarm which i have installed.

also installed line 6 monkey so its all updated

just need a good multi track program now...as i dont think much of garageband (multi track program that comes bundled with a mac).

You need to talk to chf & Ferret about Garageband (DickL too, I think). Seems it's a good DAW.....If you don't like it, try Reaper......

Ditto. I've never used garageband but I've heard good things about it. I'd take some advice, it may have qualities that are not obvious at first.
