I wonder if u could help me with the following

1. Having recorded my band live on eight tracks how can i send them to sonar yet keep the files small. The mrs is fitted with the uib board and i have AFM

2. When u have created a master on the recorder how do u send that out as it is as a mixdown to the pc. All i see is projects but no master...

Thanks

Hi, Thunder and welcome to Zoom forum.
Sorry it took so long for someone to answer you. Must be the holidays.

Anyway, I'm not a Sonar user, but before I went MIDI/PC recording, I used to record with an MRS802 and exported to PC for mixdown, but I used the free Kristal Audio Engine, which doesn't except any other files but WAVs. This might also be the case with Sonar. Again, I can't say for sure because I've never used Sonar. There are many who frequent here who do use it. Maybe one or two of them will eventually chime in.

You seem to have all the software you need though (AFM). You might want to try using WAVs. If, for some reason you only have access to smaller compressed files (such as MP3s) to work with and need a conversion program, may I suggest Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/. It's a free program and it's got many uses. For MP3 conversions you'll also need the Lame file plug in. http://lame.sourceforge.net/download.php.

Hope I've helped. If you need more detail or explanation on how to use Audacity, feel free to PM me. ;)

This is how I did it on the MRW1608 - I'm doing this from memory so excuse me if I've missed any detail :?

Go to the Zoom site and download the file utility (at the bottom of the page http://www.zoom.co.jp/downloads/mrs1608/software/

Connect the MRS to the PC and put into USB mode (you might need the manual for this bit)

Open the downloaded file utility on the PC and you should be able to see the MRS disk with all the projects displayed. Navigate to the relevant project and drag the files across to the PC. You can't do anything about the size. They're .dat files I think and dragging them to the PC changes them to wavs (iirc). You can always use Audacity to change them to mp3s if you want.

The files can them be individually imported into your DAW.

HTH

Cheers

Dick
